Offering practical, sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing, contentious problems

Are you looking for sustainable solutions?

Founded in 1998, ECM BioFilms is an Ohio Corporation that was organized to develop and market an additive technology for manufacturing biodegradable* plastics.

Through extensive research, ECM BioFilms has developed a proprietary, trade-secreted additive technology that structures inter-species communities of microorganisms into biofilms which produce the necessary acids and enzymes to break down the long polymer chains of standard plastic resins.

In other words, our additives make plastics biodegradable*.

In a world looking for sustainable solutions to the problems created by plastics, and an ever-increasing demand for alternative energy sources, ECM BioFilms has a vision for the future of plastics that is both green and sustainable.

Biodegradable plastics have the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs in the plastics, energy, waste and recycling industries–and make us better stewards of the earth’s resources

“Leaders around the world need to re-examine the current thinking about best management practices in regards to plastics. What we need is a paradigm shift away from conventional thinking. If you begin to imagine biodegradable plastics in the context of the landfill gas-to-energy industry, you’ll see there is a huge opportunity in front of us to reduce atmospheric carbon emissions, and create an invaluable new source of renewable energy. Biodegradable plastics have the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs in the plastics, energy, waste and recycling industries–and make us better stewards of the earth’s resources”. ~ Robert Sinclair, President, ECM BioFilms

The plastic products manufactured with ECM BioFilms’ revolutionary technology are priced competitively with, and have the same mechanical characteristics as, traditional non-degradable plastics.

With distributors and representatives in most major countries, ECM BioFilms has garnered an international presence, and has exerted leadership in the development of a number of new ASTM (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials, now ASTM International) biodegradability standards, for landfills as well as in soil for agricultural and erosion-control products.

ECM BioFilms nurtures and supports a healthy, creative, respectful and fun work environment where employees are fairly compensated and encouraged to respect its customers and support the continued quality of its products.
